New Features for Merchants Using Amazon Checkout

Dear Checkout by Amazon Merchant,

We’re excited to introduce Amazon PayPhrase – the latest addition to the Amazon Payments family of services. We launched Checkout by Amazon to make it easy for tens of millions of Amazon customers to use the information stored in their Amazon.com accounts to buy from websites like yours. Amazon PayPhrase offers customers yet another convenient and easy way to complete their purchases.

What is Amazon PayPhrase?

Amazon PayPhrase is the easy-to-remember shortcut for paying on Amazon.com and other websites. With Amazon PayPhrase, online shoppers simply choose their own customized phrase—such as “Knick Knack”, “Home Sweet Home”, or “Jake’s Allowance”—and then enter that phrase along with a PIN to quickly preview their order and complete their purchase. PayPhrase is now a checkout option on all websites accepting Checkout by Amazon and on Amazon.com. Amazon.com customers can create their PayPhrase and start using it today by visiting https://payments.amazon.com/payphrase.

How does Amazon PayPhrase work with Checkout by Amazon?

Checkout by Amazon automatically supports Amazon PayPhrase. With the Checkout by Amazon button on your site, you can accept PayPhrase orders starting today – no action is required on your part. If you have already implemented the JavaScript code for 1-Click®, the PayPhrase button will surface as part of the widget that appears when a customer clicks on the “Checkout with Amazon” button in your shopping cart or on your product detail page. To experience Amazon PayPhrase implemented at the product detail page level, visit merchants such as Buy.com, Patagonia, Jockey, J&R Electronics, Car Toys and DKNY.

Customers will still have the option to checkout through the standard checkout pipeline, and 1-Click Ordering will also be available to customers who have enabled 1-Click for their accounts. In addition to introducing Amazon PayPhrase, today’s updates to the Checkout by Amazon experience include an improved design of the order preview window for 1-Click customers. We’ve also improved the design of the Amazon Payments sign-in page.

How does Amazon PayPhrase make buying easier for my customers?

Using a PayPhrase, customers can preview their full order details, including shipping and tax, and then checkout in seconds without ever leaving your site. They do not need to sign in, enter their credit card information, or type in a shipping address to buy with PayPhrase.

Amazon PayPhrase also makes it easy for parents to set up an online allowance and monitor their kids’ purchases. By creating a PayPhrase for their teenager or student away at college, parents can set monthly spending limits and monitor or approve purchases. With PayPhrase, parents have the flexibility to preview every order placed, including the ability to approve or decline each order via e-mail or mobile phone text alerts.
